Gastroparesis is a digestive disorder caused by the stomach’s inability to contract properly or effectively to propel food into the small intestines. It leaves patients with a number of symptoms, most notably a sensation of feeling full even without eating much, regurgitation, nausea and vomiting. Diabetes is the most common cause of this problem but other conditions and medications such as opiates, blood pressure medications, and antidepressants have been associated with this disorder. Also, in a significant percentage of patients with gastroparesis no obvious cause can be identified.
